On November 8th, 2025, School of International Law CUPL / School of Foreign-Related Rule of Law CUPL successfully held the "International Order and the Development of Multilateralism—International Law Forum Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations" in Beijing. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. Over the past 80 years, the UN has made significant contributions to the post-war international order and the development of multilateralism. Currently, profound global changes unseen in a century are accelerating, the trend of unilateralism is resurgent, geopolitical conflicts are intensifying, and both the international order and multilateralism face multiple challenges. To address these major contemporary concerns, build academic consensus within the international law community, explore future development paths for multilateralism, and conduct in-depth research on academic issues across various fields including public international law, private international law, and international economic law, our School invited leading authorities and domestic experts in international law to convene this forum.

Professor Liu Yanhong emphasized the significant practical importance of reviewing the development path of multilateralism and discussing the future direction of international law.

Professor Huang Jin stressed the urgency and importance of upholding the post-World War II international order based on international law.

Judge Gao Zhiguo delivered a keynote speech titled "The Post-War Maritime Order in the South China Sea and Its Challenges," systematically elaborating on the historical context and legal basis of China's claims in the South China Sea from historical and jurisprudential perspectives.

Ma Xinmin, Member of the International Law Commission and former Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered a keynote speech titled "The UN Charter and Multilateralism: Development and Challenges."

Li Juqian expressed his agreement and high praise for the excellent reports presented by the two keynote speakers. Li Juqian chaired the keynote speech session.

On the afternoon of the same day, parallel forums hosted by the Institute of Public International Law, the Institute of Private International Law, and the Institute of International Economic Law were successfully held.
