On May 13, 2025, the 52nd edition of the "International Law Forum," organized by the School of International Law CUPL / School of Foreign-Related Rule of Law CUPL, was successfully held in Classroom 0111, Comprehensive Building, Haidian Campus. The distinguished speaker for this lecture was Professor Anne Peters, a leading scholar in European public international law academia, who addressed the topic "Double Standards in International Law."

Professor Anne Peters demonstrated the pervasive reality of double standards in international politics, analyzed their legal validity and moral attributes within international law, and explored the circumstances under which accusations of double standards are justified.

Subsequently, faculty representatives engaged in discussions with Professor Peters. Professor Wu Yingying expressed the view that international law, at the level of rules, applies equally to all subjects and does not inherently contain double standards, with the primary issues lying instead at the level of implementation.

Professor Gao Qi from the law school of Beihang University discussed with Professor Peters the question of "how key elements should be identified in specific cases to determine the existence of double standards."

Later, Professor Li Fupeng from Law School of China University of Political Science and Law shared his reflections on "double standards" in the practice of international law, pointing out significant differences in how different scholars interpret international law.

During the Q&A session, students raised questions to Professor Peters regarding the functions of the International Criminal Court and the veto power system within the UN Security Council.

The lecture broadened the students' intellectual horizons and provided them with a deeper understanding of the complex implications of double standards in both the rules and practice of international law. The event was held in a hybrid online and offline format, with cumulative participation exceeding one hundred attendees.
